Breckenridge has long been a favorite vacation destination during the winter and summer months. Originally founded as a mining town in the 1850’s, Breckenridge has become one of the most popular mountain resorts in the nation. But what is it that keeps drawing people back to Breckenridge? The quaint mountain town? The great dining options? The great skiing? The convienent lodging? The family friendly activities offered year round? The special events?
I could try to answer this question all day, but in reality, all of these things combine together to make Breckenridge a unique and fun destination:
And while I could write a post on each one of these topics, today we’ll take a look at the convenient lodging.
Breckenridge has become well known for its ski in/ski out and village lodging thru conveniently located properties, friendly family services and great value. Let’s go ahead and check out 1 hotel, 1 condo and 1 home that have helped Breckenridge grow to be one of the best resorts around.
1 (hotel). The Beaver Run Hotel, located at the base of Peak 9, is a great ski in/ski out property for families and groups who want to stay on the mountain. With the Beaver Run Super Chair and Quicksilver Super 6 chair located just outside the hotel, guests have instant access up the mountain. There is also a selection of hiking and biking trails located just outside the door, great for taking in some of the beautiful scenery of the area. Not to mention, the hotel is just minutes from down town Breckenridge, where there are plenty of shops, restaurants and boutiques to keep you busy.
The property has studio to 4 bedroom suites, with a variety of room types to match your needs. The hotel also has a full service restaurant and spa, and equipment rental is on-site. The hotel is also pet-friendly, and offers multiple pet services to make sure your dog has a great vacation too! If you want to stay on the mountain and are looking for convenient hotel accommodations, this is the place to stay.
2 (condo). One Ski Hill Place, Breckenridge’s newest condo property, opened up last year at the base of Peak 8. This prime-time location is great during the summer and winter, as it is located right next to the gondola to town and next to 3 different chair lifts up the mountain. Also located at the base of Peak 8 is Breckenridge’s Gold Runner Coaster, a 2,500 ft coaster that weaves in and out of the trees of Breckenridge. This location simply can’t be beat, and the full spa, aquatic center and restaurants on-site ensure that you don’t even have to leave (even though your should go explore) the residences during your stay.
The property offers studio to 4 bedroom suites, and has a variety of rooms and layouts to fit your needs. Rooms either receive views up the slopes or out towards the continental divide and town of Breckenridge. As with the Beaver Run Hotel, a variety of hiking and biking trails are right outside the door, leaving all of the Breckenridge area open for exploration. This is a great property for those looking for maximum convenience and outstanding amenities.
3 (home). Now for the house – 31 Riverwood Drive. 31 Riverwood Drive is located on a 1 acre lot just outside the town of Breckenridge. This magnificent 5 bedroom home has a private hot tub and home theater, not to mention the flat screen televisions and fireplaces throughout the house. Guests may take in relaxing views of the wooded surroundings and ski resort from the private decks, or prepare a feast in the gourmet kitchen. The home is conveniently located on the shuttle route and there is also a private shuttle that will provide door-to-door service in Breckenridge. For a luxurious vacation in Breckenridge, this home is the perfect fit. So bring your group or family out for a vacation to be remembered!
Well there are 3 of my favorite places in Breckenridge, each with their own pros and cons. Check out the map below to see where all these properties are located on the mountain.
Hopefully this gave you a better idea about how Breckenridge is laid out, and you have a bit of info about these select 3 properties. Breckenridge has Nature Valley bars at the Peak 7 and Peak 8 ticket offices, and sometimes they are offered by chair lifts on the mountain.
Keystone will give you a few Nature Valley bars for the day at its ticket windows and in the Mountain Service Center

Breckenridge, Colorado is home to one of the most popular ski resorts in the nation. The resort has now been around for 50 years, and has become one of the ‘go to’ destinations for mountain-lovers year round. Breckenridge continues to raise the bar for vacationers with state of the art lodging properties, great service and unique events.
Last November, Rock Resorts opened up One Ski Hill Place in Breckenridge—a ski in ski out complex located right at the base of Peak 8. I had the opportunity to stay at One Ski Hill Place last winter, and it was truly an experience. The ridiculously convenient lodge has 3 dining areas, a full spa and pool (my favorite part-complete with indoor/outdoor hot tubs, a steam room, sauna and pool), a bowling alley, private movie screening rooms, a fitness center, and access to 4 chair lifts right outside the door.

The Ski in ski out One Ski Hill Place in Breckenridge
The 3 dining areas include a full service skier restaurant with a grand fireplace, the T-Bar après-ski bar with 40 beers on tap, and a Living Room Café with Slope side Views. The skier restaurant is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, and makes for a great place to stop throughout the day. Each of these dining areas are unique to one another, and there is no better place for après ski than right at the base of the mountain. And to go a step further, a selection of menu options can be brought to your door from One Ski Hill Place’s room service.
The lodge is at the center of all the action—the gondola connects to the patio of the lodge, providing guests with access to and from the Town of Breckenridge. And with the ski lifts just outside the door, One Ski Hill Place is truly a ski in ski out property.

The Indoor Aquatics Center at One Ski Hill Place
One Ski Hill Place provides studio to 4 bedroom condos, offering a variety of options for any group size. The units have the option of a “slope side” view (facing the mountain) or a “Continental Divide” view (facing the Continental Divide and looking out over Breckenridge). Both options are great, it just depends on whether you would rather look up the mountain or out over the valley.

A Slope Side Patio View from One Ski Hill Place in Breckenridge
With great views and maximum convenience, the new One Ski Hill Place is a terrific lodge to spend your lunch break, après ski, or your entire vacation. Everything in Breckenridge is at your fingertips from the property, so when booking lodging in Breckenridge don’t forget to mention that you would like to stay at One Ski Hill Place.

Aspen: 24 hr: 0in 72 hr: 5in
Aspen is one of the only mountains in the Colorado Rockies that got snow this week, giving some much needed powder to anxious skiers. The snow helped open up the 560 ft long superpipe, which is one of the many features that will be used in the 2012 Winter X Games.
Breckenridge: 24 hr: 0in 72 hr: 0in
The Dew Tour got of to a great start this past weekend in Breckenridge. Riders killed it in the superpipe and in the Freeway Park. Breckenridge has now opened the park to the public, giving park enthusiasts a chance to ride a truly spectacular course. Also, tomorrow Breckenridge will open Peak 10. With new snow on the way, this is sure to be a great opening day for Peak 10
Copper: 24 hr: 0in 72 hr: 0in
Copper opened up its Rendezvous Lift yesterday, providing access to 15 lifts and 593 acres.
Keystone: 24 hr: 0in 72 hr: 0in
Keystone will be reopening NASTAR today after a brief hiatus due to snow conditions. Check out what Keystone has open on the mountain.
Vail: 24 hr: 0in 72 hr: 0in
While no new runs or lifts have opened at Vail since the last update, they have moved up their opening time from 9 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

This now means that top-to-bottom skiing will be available at the 4 Aspen/Snowmass mountains. This is great news for the area, as the year has gotten off to a slow start. Also, the remodeled Merry-Go-Round on-mountain restaurant will open today at Aspen Highlands **show up from 1-3 for an opening day party!
Breckenridge
Peak 7 opened today at Breckenridge, expanding their terrain to 420 acres out of the available 2,358. While there is still much to be opened at Breckenridge, the opening of Peak 7 is great improvement to the mountain.

Vail
Parts of Game Creek Bowl are set to open today, giving skiers even more access to Vail. While the Back Bowls and Blue Sky Basin are still some time away from opening, expanding access to Game Creek Bowl with the Game Creek Express Lift marks the start of a great winter.
Keystone
Keystone’s Main Street Jump Line is set to open this weekend, which often deemed as some of the best jumps in the nation. Pro ski and snowboard teams come to Keystone every year to film and train on these jumps.
Beaver Creek
There are big things going on in Beaver Creek this weekend with the opening of 4 new lifts. **Stay up to date this weekend with video updates if you can’t make it to the Dew Tour in Breckenridge!
The Winter Dew Tour, founded in 2008, is one of the biggest events of the season for skiers and snowboarders. The Olympics obviously take the cake in terms of importance and level of competition, but they only happen every 4 years. The X-games are the next biggest event, and the Dew Tour falls close behind. The Dew Tour features more of the ‘up and coming’ athletes in skiing and snowboarding, and gives them a chance to make a name for themselves.

The Dew Tour is unique in that it has 3 stops throughout the winter. The first is at Breckenridge ski resort in Colorado (December 15-18), the second is in Killington, Vermont (January 19-22) and the third is at Snowbasin in Ogden, Utah (February 9-12). The third and final stop typically carries the most importance, since this is where the final results are determined and the gold medals and Dew Cups are awarded. The cup is awarded based on who performs the best on all 3 stops of the tour. This separates out the true warriors who are able to perform at each stop. Coverage of the event throughout the winter will be provided by NBC.

A few big names will be competing this year including Shawn White, Louie Vito and Danny Davis in men’s snowboarding and Simon Dumont and Torin Yater-Wallace in men’s skiing. Shaun White is back to reclaim the cup after not competing in last year’s tour, which is sure to make the competition that much more interesting. Check out footage from last year’s Dew Tour to see just how high the stakes go.
So if you come to Breckenridge for the Dew Tour or just to vacation any time of year, be sure to find out more about how our team of Friendly. Knowledgeable. Locals.® can help you plan your customized vacation.
Have you been waking up each morning with excitement? Immediately going to the window to see if snow has fallen overnight? Or religiously checking your computer for the snow report, hoping you somehow slept for a month and all the resorts have suddenly opened? Well if you have, you are not alone. I have been impatiently waiting for the beginning of ski season, even though it was only three months ago that I was taking runs at Arapahoe Basin on the 4th of July.

4th of July at Araphoe Basin
It was a great day to end a wonderful season, complete with friends and a grill in the parking lot. But as I look out my office window at Vail, I look forward to the coming season, and pray that this year will be as fulfilling as the last.
While Vail is not open yet, the ski season in Colorado has already begun! On October 7th, 2011, Wolf Creek opened, recording the earliest opening day in Colorado’s history. Arapahoe Basin followed soon after on October 11th, this past weekend Copper and Keystone Opened! So get out your calendars, put a big red “X” on the following dates, and start the countdown to what is predicted to be another La Nina winter!
Whether you‘re coming to ski on opening day or sometime mid-season be sure to find out more about how our team of Friendly. Knowledgeable. Locals.® can help you plan your customized summer or winter vacation in any of our fun-filled destinations.

There will be fifty days of giveaways serving as a countdown to the start to the season. Prizes include anything and everything. One awesome prize is to have a drink named after you at the T-Bar at the base of Peak 8. It’s easy to win too! All you have to do is follow Breckenridge Ski Resort on Facebook.
They are also doing a “50 Wishes” campaign where all guests can submit any wish to the resort and Breckenridge will pick fifty throughout the season and fulfill them. This means if you have always wished for a new rail in the park or a new hot chocolate stand on the mountain you can ask for it!
Between all the expected snow and the birthday festivities this season is shaping up to be one of the best in history and we are excited to celebrate it with you. So book now with one of our Friendly.Knowledgeable.Locals. and get ready to enjoy of the best seasons yet!

The Kingdom of Breckenridge, this was the nickname the locals gave the town of Breckenridge since they were technically off the map. The town of Breckenridge was founded as a mining town in 1859 but was accidentally left off official US maps until 1936. To celebrate that famous mistake and nickname there is the Kingdom Days festival June 17th-19th. This weekend we celebrate the rich heritage that was Breckenridge before the fantastic skiing and snowmobiling, gold mining and the search for wealth.
There are wonderful activities for kids and adults alike! For instance have you ever seen an outhouse fly like the wind? The infamous outhouse races that were once featured on MSNBC’s “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” are hilarious to watch and a lot of fun to participate in. The outhouses are made with cardboard or plastic and have one person riding inside with a helmet on. Free to attend with lots of potential for a good time.
If you would like to learn more about the history of Breckenridge this is a great weekend to learn! Historic tours and other attractions are free for the weekend thanks to the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance. These tours are fun and educational and give a great look into the wild west history of the miners lives and struggles to seek the ever precious metal. The largest gold nugget ever found was actually right here in Breckenridge at 13.5 pounds.
Kingdom Days are a great way to kick off the summer. Lodging rates are a steal and the weekend promises fun for the whole family without breaking the bank of a big vacation. There are great deals are all over town from dining to shopping. Everyone will have a great time and might accidentally learn a few things too!
