Vail, CO, August 30, 2011- The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Department has recognized Scott Larson with the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Citizen Citation for Distinguished Service Award for his heroic efforts in saving a man’s life while hiking outside of Salida, Colorado.

On June 18, 2011, twenty-one year old Scott Larson was completing his descent down Mt. Antero, when he was stopped by Rick Denton to help save his friend’s life. Denton and the victim, Jim Taylor, 69, were riding separate ATV’s when a snow bank caused Taylor’s vehicle to overturn, pinning him underneath the vehicle in the freezing creek below. Together, Larson and Denton were able to lift the vehicle off Mr. Taylor and remove him from the stream.

Once on land, Mr. Taylor lost and regained consciousness and was suffering from exhaustion and the initial effects of hypothermia. Larson began treating Mr. Taylor for hypothermia and immediately drove him down the mountain where they could call 911 and meet the ambulance. The EMT and deputy sheriff agreed that if Larson had not been at the right place at the right time and reacted the way he did, Mr. Taylor would not have survived.

“I feel incredibly lucky and blessed that I was there when I was and had the knowledge and preparedness that I did from my training as an Eagle Scout. From the immediate terror and shock that something like that was actually happening, to the ability to react, to the humble pride that you take in success from a situation like that, it’s beyond words. I thank God that I was there”, states Larson.

Larson advises others to “Be prepared, because you never know when those little things you learned in Scouting will come in handy”. Larson is forever grateful for the life lessons learned in Boy Scouts that transpired into saving a man’s life.

Larson humbly accepted the County Sheriff’s Citizen Citation for Distinguished Service Award in Salida on August 27, 2011. He was joined at the ceremony by Rick Denton, who also received the award, Jim Taylor, and his family.

Created by the corporation Denso-Wave, a sub division of Toyota, this two-dimensional barcode holds more information than a traditional barcode, allowing for more efficient inventory control, and it directly connects consumers to information about a product or service.

“We are always looking for cutting edge and innovative ways to market our product,” said Tommy Z. Hoffman, owner and founder of Rocky Mountain Vacation Rentals. QR codes are appearing on posters, vehicles, flyers, banners, signs, and business cards. So far, RMVR has placed QR codes on Google Business listings and advertisements in print articles, such as Ski Magazine. The company plans to continue to integrate QR codes into various aspects of their business as this digital phenomenon continues to gain traction.

Today’s usage with a smart phone can connect the physical world to the online world. Businesses that are a part of the program sign up and pay the participation fees in order to receive mystery shops evaluations.  “Most businesses are actually visited in person by mystery shoppers, but some like Rocky Mountain Vacation Rentals are conducted via phone,” said Katie Barnes, manager of the program.

The Vail Valley Partnership has “secret shoppers” that pretend to be actual customers calling in for reservations but are actually rating them on their customer service. Rocky Mountain Vacation Rentals was graded on a scale of 0 to 100 for customer service and scored over 90% on every phone call. The average score for RMVR between all of the secret shoppers was a 95.8%, which is one of the highest in the Vail Valley.

Rocky Mountain Vacation Rentals Introduces Jill Eberly as the Vail and Beaver Creek Sales Manager

Vacation rental company announces the internal promotion of Jill Eberly in time for the 2010 summer season.

VAIL, Colo. – Rocky Mountain Vacation Rentals announced today the promotion of Jill Eberly into the Vail and Beaver Creek Sales Manager. Eberly has succeeded former Vail and Beaver Creek Sales Manager Alana Hanks will be the senior sales coordinator, and has taken on additional marketing responsibilities to help Rocky Mountain Vacation Rentals with the triple digit growth it is experiencing.

Eberly brings three years sales experience within the travel industry. Vail Resorts kept the EPIC Mix a secret until they debuted the mobile and web-based application today at a press event at the Ace Hotel in Manhattan. But then, out of nowhere, they unleashed the “EPIC Mix” to the world, announcing that the skiing and snowboarding would be so much more social this season, because of their innovative location-based gaming application.

So what does the EPIC Mix do? The EPIC Mix is somewhat like Foursquare, but instead of unlocking Foursquare “badges”, you unlock EPIC Mix “pins.” Everything from tracking your vertical drop, to how many runs, or how many days on the mountain. This is a game of multiple location-based programs all rolled into one.

The key to letting the EPIC Mix become a reality is the RFID chip that is inside the card that you get when you purchase your season pass. The cool thing about this is that you don’t have to be on your phone checking in. Your RFID chip gets scanned at the lift, and automatically put into the “EPIC Mix” of things, if you like the pun.

What I would have really enjoyed to see was a summary of what I did last year. Yeah, I know I got 50 days on the mountain, but I would have liked to have relived it somehow. The EPIC Mix will give me what I’ve always wanted, and more. I can log in to the website, check my stats, see my scores, view my friends, and so much more.

What else can the EPIC Mix do? The EPIC Mix links to your Facebook and Twitter accounts, letting you compare your pins with friends, see who’s got the most days on the mountain, or vertical feet passed, or even WHERE your friends are!

Vail Resorts is always open to new ideas, new trends, and new methods of interaction. Their EPIC Mix is the next best thing out there, fellas! I’m definitely downloading the app on my android after I buy the EPIC Pass, and racing all my friends for the most pins, most days, and most vertical feet.

Frontier Airlines will continue Denver to Aspen flights this ski season.

Denver to Aspen flights will include one departure per day October 1^st through November 17^th, two departures per day November 18^th through December 15^th, and just in time for ski season, four departures daily  December 16^th through April 2011.
