Keystone Vacations Testimonials

Believe it or not, this Colorado native did not learn how to snowboard until she was 24. For some defiant reason, I had little desire to experience snowboarding when I was young; however, after my 24th birthday, I escaped to the mountains, and decided it was finally time to learn a sport that my home state was famous for.

Being a natural athlete, I assumed snowboarding would be easy to master and I would soon become the next Shaun White. I arrived at Keystone to begin my first day on the slopes, as I looked up I thought “that doesn’t look too bad”. Since I am a ‘superb athlete,’ I decided to ride the chairlift rather than the Gondola. As I rode up the lift, I was in awe at the view around me. I now understood why people flock to Colorado. Before I could take it all in…SMACK! I forgot I was on a chairlift and fell flat on my face. Not off to the best start, I picked myself up and headed to the bunny slopes.

Up and down I went, falling on my face then falling on my rear. I would only silently admit that ‘THIS WAS TOUGH!’ I never admitted my frustrations to my patient friend who couldn’t stop laughing at me.

Day after day I drove my beat-up self to Keystone; I was determined not to let the mountain win. I consistently tried the Spring Dipper run, Frenchman, and Wild Irishman, but to no avail, I just kept falling.

One early April morning I decided to go up to Keystone by myself. It was a Tuesday, and it very quiet and snowing heavily. I pressed play on my iPod at the top of the Gondola, strapped into my board and off I went. I eased onto Schoolmarm heel edge, falling leaf style. Somewhere between Neil Young and Beyonce I started carving! I gracefully got down the mountain and after three runs and had the best day of my life. It was an absolutely perfect Colorado spring day. I will always remember that day, and Keystone will always remain my home mountain and Schoolmarm will be my favorite run.
