Snowbird

The town of Snowbird Ski Resort is located in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Utah. Snowbird is a multi-facility winter and summer resort that was opened in 1971. It is located 29 miles east from Salt Lake International Airport. The excellent weather, ideal ski conditions, and scenery in this region are spectacular and will make you want to visit Snowbird year after year. Before Snowbird became a ski resort, locals mined for silver deposits within Little Cottonwood Canyon. Following the mining age in the early 20th Century, the surrounding area began to be explored for skiable terrain. Ted Johnson, the man who named and developed Snowbird explored the area and pronounced it skiable. Johnson and another man by the name of Dick Bass teamed up to physically develop Snowbird. Both men opened Snowbird in 1971, although a few years later, Johnson sold his interest in Snowbird to Bass.

Snowbird shares Little Cottonwood Canyon with its neighbor to the east, Alta Ski Resort. Alta is one of the oldest ski areas in the U.S. and is one of the few resorts that are available only to skiers. In the winter of 2002, both resorts began offering a joint day pass, which allowed only skiers (Alta has a skiers only policy), full access to all terrain on both mountains. In previous years, Snowbird has received countless rewards for being the best ski resort in the U.S. It continually strives to be the best ski resort in the U.S. by offering top-notch customer service and the best terrain. Snowbird is the ideal vacation destination for singles, large groups, and families alike. The resort and town or Snowbird has so much to offer such as activities, shopping, skiing, snowboarding, dining, and much more. See what Snowbird has to offer for you!
