Taos
Taos Ski Valley is located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. More than a century ago, the valley was a bustling miner’s town. Now, the valley is a gorgeous vacation destination that any skier would dream of visiting. It’s about 15 miles northeast of the city of Taos along highway 150. Taos Ski Valley Resort, which is made up of the village and the ski lifts was developed in 1996 and resides at 9200 feet. The valley is a popular year round vacation and travel destination for all types of people and families. The mountain receives approximately 250,000 skiers from all over the world that are looking for pristine snow, unique adventures, and a fun time.
In 1955 the resort was developed by Rhoda and Ernie Blake and is still managed by the Blake family today. The first lift was installed in 1956, which was a J-Bar and then in 1957, the second lift was installed, called the Poma Lift. The ski resort looks similar to Swiss village because of its culture, climate, and geography. Taos offers world class skiing for people of all difficulty levels and ages. Taos is one of the few family operated ski resorts in North America that still exists. When visiting the resort, you feel at home and welcomed making you come back time and time again.
